What is Athenor?

The explanation at it's most basic level is that we are a BDSM group based in the area of Minneapolis - Saint Paul, Minnesota.  Of course, it goes a bit beyond that.

We have crafted our organization by using a lot of formal structure, ritual and protocol.  We do this with the intention of creating a close-knit group with a high degree of trust within which all of us can expand the horizons of both ourselves as individuals and collectively as a Lodge.  

The core of our philosophy is that there is such a thing as sexual energy. This energy manifests itself in most everyone in different ways, even if sex itself may or may not be involved. Some may call it passion, some may call it lust. But it erupts in our souls like a fire.

We see BDSM as a tool for taking that basic sexual energy and transforming it into something more. By studying what makes something sexual to begin with, and understanding its basic elements, like the alchemists of old, we hope to use this knowledge to achieve something beyond the norm.

Rather than explore this individually, we have decided to join together and learn as a group. This means taking the Dominant/submissive dynamic and applying it on a group level. Although we are all equal individuals, and members of the group, within our group we each assume our preferred roles. Thus submissives of the Lodge are expected to be in service to the entire Lodge (within reasonable boundaries). Likewise all Dominants are responsible for the care of the Lodge and ALL submissives within it. The Dominants do not exist simply to order the submissives about, but rather to use their Dominance to nurture the submissives, help them grow, and treat them with the amount of respect that one would expect to find in any personal relationship.  With all our members focused on contributing to the same goal, we seek a synergistic reaction...growing our abilities exponentially.

Consequently our purpose can be summed up as power exchange on a group level utilizing education, ritual and formality. Understanding the power of BDSM within a D/s relationship is our goal. We have formed a group within which we can do so safely and with trust in one another. Practicing D/s on a group level, pursuing an education for ourselves, and seeking to educate others is the means to this goal.  The formality of our rituals and protocol gives order to all of this.

We don't expect that this structure will be for everyone, but we know there are some people who really enjoy the idea. And for that reason, as well as for the pursuit of greater knowledge and the betterment of ourselves, we have founded the Lodge of Athenor.
